New Behind-the-Scenes Featurette + Images for 'Thor: The Dark World'

The Blu-Ray and DVD release of Iron Man 3 is coming on September 24th, and one of the bonus features on the disc will include the first featurette for Thor: The Dark World, the next chapter in Phase Two of Marvel's cinematic universe. Complete with interviews featuring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and director Alan Taylor, we get a good tease of where this sequel will take the god of thunder. There's talk of going off-world for most of the movie and seeing the other Nine Realms. Portman teases that it's very "operatic" and the scale is truly epic. See below.

Ben Affleck as Batman?! Say it ain't so! It can't be true! This is the worst news in the history of the world! News that Ben Affleck has been officially cast to play Bruce Wayne aka Batman in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel sequel hit Twitter by storm last night, spreading instantly all over the world and evoking some of the most heated reactions and discussions we've seen in a while. The actor who gave us Daredevil and Gigli is going to be the next Batman? The last one is great because by that point of the night, many folks had reached the "fuck it" stage and were tweeting absurdly hilarious things. For more amusement, Mashable has memes + Uproxx has more tweets.

In all honesty, it's still way too early to really judge this kind of casting decision (especially considering this won't be in theaters until July 2015). There's so much we don't know about the sequel and where Warner Bros / DC Comics wants to take the story next after Batman vs. Superman (or Man of Steel 2). This could all be leading towards Ben Affleck directing the Justice League movie (while also playing Batman) and if that happens, things will get even crazier. But for now, it is fun to see all of the reactions and responses, and to laugh at how much this has enraged fans. Even if you hate this casting, don't worry, the world isn't over.

'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' Gets an Official Bombastic Title

Disney is getting ready to set sails on their high seas blockbuster sequel Pirates of the Caribbean 5 with Kon-Tiki directors  Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg gearing up for production late this year or January 2014. Johnny Depp will shoot the sequel after completing the musical Into the Woods (also at Disney) and the crime comedy Mortdecai with director David Koepp, and while the studio is still sorting out its deal with producer Jerry Bruckheimer, potentially taking away his final cut privileges after The Lone Ranger failed to perform at the box office, the official title for the sequel has been revealed. Rønning and Sandberg recently spoke with This is Infamous and they revealed that the title is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, guaranteeing that the full title will rarely be used in headlines. The title is a reference to a line from the theme park (there's even a fansite called TellNoTales.com) where a skull and crossbones (similar to the image) on a wall utters the phrase. It's a flashy way of saying that someone who is dead can't tell secrets, so it's better to dispatch with them so they don't cause any trouble. Sounds like someone might be in pursuit of Captain Jack Sparrow for some information he knows? We'll get the full story on July 10th, 2015.

Ben Affleck to Play Batman in Zack Snyder's 'Man Of Steel' Sequel!

Wow. This came out rather quick. Word is that Zack Snyder has cast the one, the only, Ben Affleck to play Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel - tentatively titled Batman vs. Superman. Warner Bros made the official announcement, confirming a July 17th, 2015 release date for the highly anticipated DC Comics sequel, as well as Affleck's involvement. Affleck won an Oscar this year for directing/producing Argo (which won Best Picture) and also won one in 1998 for Good Will Hunting's Best Screenplay. Many may remember he already played George Reeves, aka Superman, in Allen Coulter's Hollywoodland and was one of the best parts of that movie. No more rumors - it's official, it's happening. Affleck vs Cavill in 2015. Are you ready?

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder provided a quick comment on the casting in the press release sent out by WB: "Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry [Cavill's] Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him." In addition, Warner Bros' President of Production Greg Silverman commented: "We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character." Let's hope that is true.

This news is definitely going to shake up the fanbase in a big way. Not many were expecting someone like Ben Affleck to be in consideration for this role, but he is obviously a very experienced actor. However, one could argue that his directing and writing is much better than his acting, at least nowadays. That said, this sounds like it might just be a good fit. My hope is that Zack really pushes Ben and challenges him to give a performance that lives up to the legacies of Michael Keaton, Christian Bale and Adam West. Warner Bros is really pushing with Man of Steel to make sure this is their new Avengers-like comic book series that will (maybe one day) lead to Justice League. Don't forget, Affleck was once rumored to be directing the Justice League movie, but that's still a few years away. For now - his casting is the biggest news. What say you?

Review: Kick-Ass 2 is Silly, Ridiculous, Violent and Worthy

PLOT: After inspiring a wave of new people to don costumes and fight crime, David Lizewski (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) comes out of retirement, and once again becomes Kick-Ass. With Hit-Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) sidelined by a need to be a “normal teenager”, Kick-Ass joins Justice Forever, a superhero club run by a former Mafia thug, turned born-again superhero calling himself Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey). Meanwhile, wanting to avenge the death of his father, Chris D'Amico (Christopher Mintz-Plasse), aka Red Mist, has decided to reinvent himself as a super-villain named “The Motherf**ker”, complete with his own army of psychos.

REVIEW: Writer/director Jeff Wadlow’s Kick-Ass 2 is actually here, however, we have to wonder if maybe we should have left this franchise where it started.

Telling three separate narratives within one big story, the sequel finds Dave Lizewski a.k.a. Kick-Ass (Aaron Taylor Johnson) continuing his efforts to help the city as a low-rent superhero; Mindy Macready a.k.a. Hit-Girl (Chloe Moretz) leaving the violent vigilante world behind to try and be a normal teenager; and Chris D’Amico a.k.a. The Motherf**ker (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) looking for revenge against Kick-Ass for killing his father, becoming the world’s first supervillain in the process. While two of these narratives manage to be modestly entertaining, Mindy’s story drags the whole film down. Kick-Ass’s efforts to join a team of fellow amateur crime-fighters called Justice Forever introduces some interesting, though underdeveloped, side characters like Jim Carrey’s born-again, ex-mobster Captain Stars and Stripes. Chris's transformation into The Motherfucker’s gives the audience a peek into how a supervillain kick starts their career. But Hit-Girl (who was the best part of the first film) gets screwed over by being stuck in an R-rated, half-baked version of Mean Girls. In the shadow of Kick-Ass’s crime fighting The Motherf**ker’s chaos, watching Mindy go up against a Regina George rip-off just feels like a waste of an interesting character and a talented young actress. 

The choppy structure holding it all together doesn't make these narratives mesh any better. The stories are really only connected whenever Kick-Ass tries to get Hit-Girl to put on her costume again, but outside of that the film just bounces back and forth, failing to establish any real rhythm. Up until the climactic finale, the three central arcs feel completely disjointed, which isn’t exactly what you want to see in a sequel that’s supposed to reunite the fun, interesting characters from the first movie. 

Kick-Ass 2 has focused a lot of its marketing focusing on the movie’s gratuitous violence and shock value, but it weirdly doesn’t even deliver on that front. While there certainly is plenty of gore to go around – characters getting stabbed, shot and having body parts chopped off – but it isn’t anything you don’t normally see in an R-rated action film. Even the impact of Moretz’s Hit-Girl is lessened, as the actress has grown a lot in the last three years and isn’t the same adolescent we saw in the 2010 original. I’d even go as far as to say that the movie is far more graphic when it comes to language, but even that feels mostly forced. 

There’s a good amount to like in Kick-Ass 2, including some manic performances from Mintz-Plasse and Carrey as well as some cool comic book flourishes by Wadlow. But the good stuff is continually buried in the things the movie gets wrong. The end of the film does set up the story for a potential part three, and while part of me wants to see if there’s any chance the series could be redeemed, it might just be smarter to let sleeping dogs lie.

New 'Amazing Spider-Man 2′ Images Tease Sinister Six

Though footage from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was shown a couple times at Comic-Con (with a trailer coming sometime this fall), the only video that's made it online officially is a tease of Jamie Foxx as Electro to hype the panel in San Diego (which you can watch in full here). Otherwise, there's been plenty of photos featuring Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn and more. Now some more photos have arrived from the production, and some of them are interesting to say the least, including a rather obvious but not too revealing hint at the villains coming soon.

As you'll see below, some of these just seem to be photos from the set photographer, including a shot of Dane DeHaan holding one of the production cameras, a close-up of Stan Lee on set (likely filming his standard cameo), a couple shots of Paul Giamatti stealing an armored car, a hooded Electro, and one interesting addition to the door of one of the set warehouses on the studio's backlot. If that doesn't get you excited for two more sequels, we don't know what will. Check out all the photos (via ComingSoon):

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is directed by Marc Webb and written by Jeff Pinker, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) finds, life is busy between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can't come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away, but that's a promise he just can't keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Sony will release Amazing Spider-Man 2 in theaters next summer on May 2nd, 2014. Excited?

Watch: 'Getaway' Mystery Trailer Starring Selena Gomez & Ethan Hawke

After running a trailer for the action thriller Getaway starring Ethan Hawke and Selena Gomez last month, we realized this was actually the same trailer which arrived in June. That just goes to show you how memorable the film seems to be. Sadly, this second trailer isn't much more engaging and it just highlights the explosions, car crashes and senseless plot following a getaway driver (Hawke) told he must follow directions from a mysterious guy on the phone to save his wife. And Gomez plays a little troublemaker who gets caught up in the nonsense along the way. Yeah, this definitely looks super silly and plainly ridiculous.

Getaway is directed by Courtney Solomon and written by Sean Finegan and Gregg Maxwell Parker, making their feature writing debut. The story follows former race car driver Brent Magna (Ethan Hawke) as he desperately tries to save the life of his kidnapped wife by commandeering a custom Shelby Cobra Mustang, taking it and its unwitting owner (Selena Gomez) on a high-speed race against time, at the command of the mysterious villain holding his wife hostage. Warner Bros. and Dark Castle Entertainment release the film in theaters late this summer on August 30th. Well?

Watch: Trailer for 'McCanick' Starring Cory Monteith in His Final Performance

For those who may not know, "Glee" star Cory Monteith passed away last month due to a drug overdose following a stint in rehab. However, the actor still has two big screen performances (in addition to another "Glee" film concert at Radio City Music Hall) on the way. One is in a film called All the Wrong Reasons premiering at TIFF, and the other is called McCanick, and the trailer has just arrived online. Monteith takes the lead in the film as a drug addicted criminal whose release from prison triggers paranoia and violence in detective Eugene McCanick (David Morse), who has a secret in his past only Weeks can expose.

McCanick is directed by Josh C. Waller (Raze) and written by Daniel Noah. In the film, a hothead cop (David Morse) learns a young man (Cory Monteith) he helped put away seven years ago is back out on the streets — and carries with him an uncomfortable secret. Ciaran Hinds, Mike Vogel, Rachel Nichols, Trevor Morgan, Aaron Yoo, and Tracie Thoms also star in the film which will premiere at TIFF next month. Good?

Two Legends Prepared to Bust Out in 'Escape Plan' International Posters

After teaming up in The Expendables 2, action fans are surely excited to see Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger back together again as they try to bust out of the most secure prison ever built in Escape Plan. We've already seen a trailer with Stallone and Schwarzenegger doing what they do best, and now two international posters have showed up featuring the meathead duo. One is certainly reminiscent of face off with a poorly done blend in the middle while the other features the stars in the cells of this unique prison. However, we're not sure how they got those big guns on the inside without raising some eyebrows.

'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' International Trailer, Coldplay To Contribute Song

"I want you guys to forget everything you think you know about the games." Another exciting new trailer for the next sequel in The Hunger Games series, titled Catching Fire, has arrived online. This brand new international trailer is essentially just a shorter version of the second full-length US trailer that debuted at Comic-Con, with some editing tweaks and different footage spliced in. But it still looks just as good. Yes, I can't wait to see it, I do enjoy this story. Jennifer Lawrence returns as Katniss, with Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, plus a big ensemble cast of talented actors all around. Enjoy.

Lionsgate Moving Forward With 'Now You See Me' Magician Heist Sequel

This summer's surprise hit Now You See Me is apparently getting a sequel, according to Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer, who says the pic is being "pencilled in" for a 2014 release. In a summer of underperformers (The Lone Ranger, The Wolverine, Pacific Rim), Now You See Me has done well for itself, benefitting from a lower budget ($75 million) and a solid, yet affordable cast, making $115 million domestically since its debut and pulling in an impressive $119 million overseas.

Must Check: The New Trailer For Marvel's 'Thor: The Dark World'

"Thor - your bravery will not ease your pain." The God of Thunder is back! And so are all of his Asgardian friends. Marvel has debuted the second full-length trailer for Thor: The Dark World, the Alan Taylor-directed sequel to Kenneth Branagh's origin story. Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor, along with Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Jaimie Alexander as Sif. This time, at least according to the plot they hint at in this trailer, Loki and Thor must team up to take on the Dark Elves. There's tons of action in this, I'm excited to see it, looks like another fine Marvel movie.

Watch: Ashton Kutcher is an American Legend in New Trailer for 'Jobs'

After the first full trailer showed off pretty much the entire story arc of Steve Jobs in the appropriately named biopic Jobs from director Joshua Michel Stern, This trailer uses Macklemore's chart-topping track Can't Hold Us, complete with a clever audio edit to fit with the presence of Macintosh personal computers, and the same cheesy but inspirational vibe that the entire film encompasses as it chronicles the highs and lows of Jobs' pursuit for technological innovation.

Rule the Dark: Action Packed Trailer for Vin Diesel's 'Riddick' Sequel Hits

"Ya - let's cut him loose." How much more Riddick can you handle? Out of nowhere, Universal has debuted one more trailer for David Twohy's Riddick sequel starring Vin Diesel as the Furyan badass with night-vision eyes. This now brings the grand total to five trailers for Riddick, between teasers and full trailers and the red band one shown at Comic-Con and everything else (not even counting TV spots). I honestly cannot wait to see this movie, I think it looks totally badass and I'm excited for it (I love Pitch Black), but I've seen enough. I just want to watch the whole movie. Also stars Katee Sackhoff, Dave Bautista & Jordi Mollà.

The Cool Friends: Rorschach and Nite Owl occupy very different ends of the superhero spectrum, what with one being the shy and retiring type and the other a borderline lunatic. That said, they're very much on the same page, with Nite Owl one of the few people in the world Rorschach can call a friend.

The Cool Friends: Louche ladies man James Tiberius Kirk, and his coldly logical crewmate, Mr. Spock. They couldn't be more different as people, and yet their mutual respect soon buds into one of the most enduring friendships in sci-fi history.
